Mashudu Nevhutalu, Family Picnic, Oil on Canvas, 91 x 91 cm, 2024
Born in 1992 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
In 2014, Mashudu Nevhutalu pursued formal art education, earning an Honours degree in Fine and Applied Arts from Tshwane University of Technology. That same year, he gained recognition by participating in the Sasol New Signatures Competition and continued to showcase his work in various exhibitions, including the SA Taxi Foundation Art Award in 2016 and 2017, and Africa Supernova exhibition at Kunsthal KAdE in Amersfoort, Netherlands in 2023.
Nehutalu’s artistic practice delves into themes of shared memories and histories, often drawing inspiration from personal family photographs. His work blends photography and painting, utilizing techniques that evoke nostalgia and explore the fluidity of memory, often reminiscent of sepia-toned photographs.
Beyond his artistic practice, Nevhutalu also contributes to the education sector as an art teacher, playing an important role in nurturing the next generation of South African artists.
